Ingredients

  • 200g plain flour
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 397g condensed milk (1 tin)
  • 150g butter (for caramel)
  • 100g soft brown sugar
  • 200g milk or dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and line a square baking tin.
  2. Mix flour, butter, and sugar to form a dough.
  3. Press into the tin and bake for 20 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter, sugar, and condensed milk for caramel.
  5. Cook gently while stirring until thickened.
  6. Pour caramel over the base and allow to set.
  7. Melt chocolate and spread over the caramel layer.
  8. Chill until firm, then slice into squares.

  • Stir caramel constantly to avoid burning.
  • Let each layer cool before adding the next.
